Four Spanish Artists

A small survey of contemporary Spanish figurative painting. Four Spanish painters from the Levante region (Ángel Mateo Charris, Joël Mestre, Gonzalo Sicre and Santi Tena) share a similar expression in painting: the use of figurative representation.

In certain cases their work echoes the tradition of American realism (Edward Hopper) and European 'new objectivity' of the 1920s and '30s while featuring a symbolically oriented emotionality, while in others there appear metaphors that are almost Surrealist. Like many Czech artists, all of them turn to objectivity as the inspiration for visual ideas.
