"The gallery My Name's Lolita Art opened its doors in Valencia in the late 1980s and then in 1996, established a new gallery in Madrid.
From the very beginning, the gallery backed a group of young painters who were experimenting with a new artistic language that was not part of the conceptual teachings prevalent in faculties of fine art at the time. It was a diverse group whose common ground was their youth and passion, wanting to reclaim painting in all its forms: pop, surrealism, symbolism, neo-metaphysics... in short, they wanted to re-examine the old European and American avant-gardes from a new perspective and through a new prism.
The gallery was not alone in this artistic adventure. From the outset it had the intellectual support of respected art critics such as Juan Manuel Bonet, Andrés Ruiz, Fernando Huici and Marcos Ricardo Barnatán. Its first appearance and launch took place at the 1991 ARCO Art Fair, where the project did not go unnoticed by critics or visitors. At the same time, across Europe, related new artistic movements were emerging, forming a large international family under the same flag: pictorial figuration.
Today, after three decades, the gallery remains faithful to this group and you can see most of them represented in this exhibition. Those youthful 20 year-olds offering us different ways of seeing their art from their creative maturity. They continue to be a source of inspiration and reference for the new generations of national and international contemporary art."
